Nikon D50 Top Flickr CameraWhen you are shopping for a camera it is often hard to decide which one is the best. You may resort to asking your friends to find out their experiences or maybe you go online and read some reviews. Oh yeah, and I’m sure you have gone to online stores and sorted the list of cameras by the “most popular” which could easily be skewed from a sale that they recently had.

It is tough to find the really nice cameras out there but maybe it isn’t quite as bad anymore. The Yahoo! Shopping Blog just released an article that gives you a list of the top 10 used cameras on Flickr:

  1. Nikon D50
  2. Nikon D70
  3. Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT
  4. Canon EOS 20D
  5. Canon EOS 350D Digital
  6. Nikon D70s
  7. Cybershot
  8. Canon Powershot S2 IS
  9. Canon EOS Digital Rebel
  10. Nikon D200

If you want to see a list of the top 100 cameras on Flickr that is updated weekly just visit this site. Looking through the list it almost makes you sick to see how many times Canon appears (I counted 46 out of the top 100).

  1. Do you not like Canon camera’s? Apparently according to your post, you do not as you say it “almost” makes you sick how many times they appear.

  2. Isn’t the Canon EOS 350D and the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT the same, but different naming?

No, I love Canon cameras (and actually own one). I just couldn’t believe how little some of the other brands were on the list. I honestly expected to see more Sony cameras on there because that seems to be the popular model at consumer stores.

Yes, they are the same. I believe it is marketed as the 350D in Europe and the Rebel XT in the the US (not sure about Japan or elsewhere)

  5. I wonder if the rankings have anything to do with flickr’s interestingness, or just on photos uploaded or what… doesn’t seem to say anywhere. I would think rank based on average interestingness for each camera would be a good indicator.

  6. I guess the other famous and good cams do not count here… I personally love Japan cams because of clear optics.

  7. no, they are not exactly the same – but *VERY* similiar.

  8. No, they’re the same except for the name. The only differences are the name badge on the front and the name in the firmware, other than that – identical.

  9. Isn’t “cybershot” a whole genre of Sony camera’s?

I thought that too but looking at the entire top 100 list has many of the Sony Cyber-Shot cameras listed separately, such as the DSC-T7. I don’t know what comprises the overall Cyber-Shot result.

  11. Wouldn’t it be more accurate to bunch the Digital Rebel XT and the 350D together since they are the same camera. My bet is it would put it on top of the list.

  12. The Canon 350D and Rebel XT are the same camera and should be grouped together and as Bob suggested this would definetly make it number one for sure.

I would check out [dpreview.com] for a more accurate review of cameras and a look at what is the best in the market at the moment.

  13. If they grouped the 350D and the Rebel XT, then some Nikon pantywaist would have to cry in his milk about a Canon being number one. That’s why it isn’t grouped.

All this really tells you anyway is how many pictures were taken with which camera. For all we know Nikonians have to take a lot more pictures to express themselves. The count should be per Flickr user.

  14. It’s interesting– at [app.tabblo.com] we see a similar prosumer bent but when you cross it with the quality of the pictures being uploaded, it doesn’t always follow that the expensive gear pays the best dividends. In fact, post-processing, as shown [app.tabblo.com] is generally a better indicator of high quality photos.

  15. Bad Survey!

EOS350d and RebelXL are the same camera. I wonder how the list would look if the numbers of the two cameras were combined. This is a bad survey, and is misleading. Just goes to show, dont trust everything you read in a blog :)

I don’t see how that means you can’t trust the information here? If I purposely left off a camera then maybe you could say that but I have posted the facts.

I do agree that they should be grouped together but I obviously have no control over that since I am not the one pulling the statistics.

  17. I’m surprised by the quality of the listed cameras. I would have expected the list to be dominated by cell phone cameras and inexpensive pocket digicams.

  18. The other similar site but with samples of photos: [camera.mashupslive.com]
    D70 and 350d the leaders.

  19. I`m on the edge of buying a cam and interested in that so i`m gathering info. Find [hitechworldnews.com]
