As 2007 comes to an end, sites like Yahoo and Google are releasing their “top of 2007″ types of lists where they note the top trends and searches for the year. As you can imagine, there are a few search queries that landed on both lists like the iPhone, YouTube, and Facebook. All three were certainly “buzz” words for the year and drew huge amounts of attention. Google’s year-end Zeitgeist includes the fast rising searches in the U.S. and globally as well as the fast falling while Yahoo divided top trends in search into categories.
The fastest rising search queries over at Google (U.S.):
- iPhone
- Webkinz
- TMZ
- Transformers
- YouTube
- Club Penguin
- MySpace
- Heroes
- Anna Nicole Smith
Over at Yahoo, the top 10 in Tech include:
- YouTube
- Wikipedia
- iTunes
- iPod
- iPhone
- Nintendo Wii
- Xbox
- Sony PlayStation 3
- Guitar Hero
Also interesting is a list of the “Most Memorable New Product Launch” of the year. This includes any type of product launch from foods to gadgets to diet pills. For the first time in two years, a tech product topped the list. Any guesses which one? Yep, you got it, the iPhone. More interesting was that Microsoft Windows Vista came in 2nd place. The only other “tech product on the list was the Motorola Razr2 which came in 9th.
The complete list (survey conducted by Schneider Associates in partnership with comScore, IRI, and BNP Media’s New Product Magazine):
- Apple iPhone
- Microsoft Windows Vista
- Febreze Candles
- Domino Oreo Dessert Pizza
- alli Weight Loss Capsules
- Oreo Cakesters
- Diet Coke Plus
- Subway Fresh Fit Meals
- Motorola Razr2
- Listerine Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips
I think it’s safe to say that the iPhone was the most buzzed about product of the year and Steve Jobs has to be pretty happy about that. Now it leaves me wondering what can possibly top the list next year… any predictions?

Where’s the real list? The one with a porn term in every slot? These lists have been deemed porn-free, obviously. They’re not the real ones.
Well, not entirely porn-free, there’s Anna Nicole Smith in there, you know
. I never heard about some of the search terms before, though.
But, didn’t Google publish a list with the top search terms each year? And I’d like to see annual Zeitgeist for every region, or at least a global one. This one is too U.S. centered.
Yes the global list would be much different from this one. wonder what will that contain ?
I’m sure they take out all of the pornography related search terms for obvious reasons…
Guess it’s better to keep it family friendly.
I’m guessing that a few of the searches are still going to be at the top, like the iPod and Wii. After all, those are worldwide products.
