Many users that have been trying the latest version of Opera can now use the GMail Chat features that everyone loves. It is actually a simple process to do this: - Download the latest version of Opera 9 Preview (at the time of this writing it is build 5326 that was just released today, but they update it every week).
- After installing the browser, goto GMail .
- Now select from the menu Tools -> Quick Preferences -> Site Preferences.
- Select the Network tab and choose Mask as Mozilla and press the OK button.
- Now refresh the GMail page and the GTalk should appear. This setting will be saved so that you don’t have to change it each time you visit GMail.
Please note that this is not a final release of Opera 9 and is instead a preview of what we can expect. The Opera team has put a lot of hard work into making this browser as powerful as they can. They currently have a nice widget engine implemented if you are a widget fan. |
Sweet, thanks.
No problem.

Thanks for the quick steps
. But people should be aware that some of the chat features are bulky in Opera 9. Let’s say you pop-out the chat windows (appears in pop-up) you can’t pop it back in after that. And sometimes by browsing through your Gmail the list of Contacts just disappear. (I haven’t tested with the recent build, might be fixed by now??)
Those are good points…I haven’t tried the pop-out window in Opera before. The contact list does disappear if you browse to different folders but at least it is possible to get the functionality. I guess beggers can’t always be choosers
.

Like this you can solve the problem of rendering other especial pages like Blogger’s post page ,etx.
doesn’t seem to work for me
Really? You don’t get the quick chat section at all in Opera? Make sure you are not selecting ‘Identify As Mozilla’ and instead you are selecting ‘Mask As Mozilla’.

Exxxcellent!
i need downlode gmail chat software
It doesn’t work on my pc. I set Opera to Mask as Mozilla. It shows the Quick Contacts Box but the contacts don’t load. It just shows Loading… and then nothing happens.
yes its working thanx
ya man its working thk thk lot man
Awesome, Thanks! I’ve been trying to make it work for some time now. I was setting the site preference on the login page and it wouldn’t work after I logged on. So I hit F12 once I was on the main gmail screen and masked as mozilla. Now it works great!
Thanks again!
Glad it is working for everyone!

Hi,
thanks for the tip. I got another question though: I also have gtalk installed, but I can’t seem to get to my gmail inbox directly from gtalk if Opera is the default browser. If opera is not running, then it will start up, but the gmail page loads with an error, and if it’s already running (opera, that is), then nothing happens when I click on the inbox icon in gtalk. Any ideas?
cheers,
mitch
