One of my favorite features in Windows Vista is the ability to click on the time in the system tray and a popup window will display a calendar. I use that calendar all of the time mostly to check what day of the week a specific date falls on.
When I just opened the calendar a little bit ago I noticed that it forewarns me of the upcoming Daylight Savings Time. In earlier versions of Windows the computer would always tell me after it had adjusted the clock for Daylight Savings but now it gives me an advanced warning…which is something that I really like.
So I guess this is a reminder for all of you as well that this Sunday at 2:00 AM the clocks go back an hour! Woo hoo…an extra hour of sleep!

I just noticed in the Date and Time Settings that there is a checkbox as to whether you want to be notified a week in advance. This was checked by default for me but I assume if you set Vista to not automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time then the box won’t be checked.

Does it ignore it if you tell the machine you live in AZ?
That is a good question. I would assume that they were smart enough to take that into account.
Having just moved from Indiana, which use the not follow daylight saving time like AZ, but recently changed. Does Vista take that into account as well?
I just updated the post to reflect my new findings. It turns out there is an option in the Time Settings that you can check/uncheck to be notified a week in advance.
WinXP had the option to account for Day Light Savings time (or was it an Arizona time zone), does this?
Yep, you can enable or disable the automatic switch Daylight Savings Time.
It is nice that windows Vista will change your clock a full 2 weeks before Daylight Saving time ends.
