Vista Transformation Pack 6

What a Christmas present this was! Vista Transformation Pack 6 was just released yesterday with all kinds of new goodies including 3rd-party applications for providing features like Taskbar thumbnail previews and a remarkable sidebar just like Vista’s. In case you are unfamiliar with this application I will forewarn you that there is a tendency for it not to uninstall all the way in case you decide that you don’t like it. I think most of the time the problem lies within replacing the icons with the old Windows XP ones, but I have personally never had issues.

With that being said I want to give credit to “Windows X” for making this release better than all previous versions. After installing the Vista Transformation Pack you’ll notice that all of the following have been changed to appear more like Vista:

  • Boot screen
  • Welcome Screen / Logon Screen
  • New msstyles files (visual styles)
  • New desktop and file icons
  • New toolbar icons
  • Progress Dialogs
  • Sounds scheme
  • System Tray icons
  • New Wallpapers
  • Windows Media Player Skins

Besides for bug fixes, here is a list of what’s new in version 6:

  • Additional Vista related applications:
    • Vista Sidebar
    • VisualTooltip (Taskbar thumbnail view and also have docking mode)
    • Styler with Kaye Irene’s Vista Perfection X4 Styler Toolbar
    • Start Orb (fix cutting edge start orb in msstyles)
    • Vista Live Messenger RC skin
  • Applying Vista setup screen transformation in setup integration
  • Browsable System files source for uninstallation so user can restore original system files from setup CD during uninstallation
  • Display configuration for the best view of machine’s display
  • Fixing file’s PE checksum after resource patching to keep files more secure
  • Launch & Maintenance Center in transformation destination in case user already have transformed the system
  • Partially x64 support for Vista visual stuff but not for system files (experimental)
  • Option to reserved updated system files after uninstallation or not
  • Skipping system file verification patch on setup integration
  • Vista RTM system applications transformation:
    • Photo printing wizard
    • Remote Desktop Connection
    • Volume Control
    • Windows Task Manager
    • System Restore
    • Connection Manager
    • Windows Update Client
    • Media Center

Those of you attempting to upgrade from a previous version of Vista Transformation Pack shouldn’t have a problem, but if you do please mention it in the comments so others know what to expect. This application is so close to Vista that I bet you could trick 99% of the population that don’t have hands-on experience with Vista. So if you are looking to give your XP machine a fresh new look you should check out the new Vista Transformation Pack 6!

  3. People, don’t download it from FileHo.com.
Because there is NEWER (fixed) version released:
    Vista Transformation Pack 6.0 (PROPER)
    Official download links are here:
    [jcxp.net]

  4. That’s the version I uploaded. It was released like an hour after the original and the PROPER is what’s on FileHo.

  5. how do I get the transparency to work??

  6. The transparency should work automatically unless something didn’t install right. Did you get any errors in the installation process?

  7. Hey I Was Just Wondering,
If I Install This Vista Look-Alike Would I Be Able To Restore My Settings Back To The XP One?
Please Tell Me I Would Really Like To Know, So I Could Download It To See If I Would Like It Or Not.
    So Please Help Me Out.
    By The Way,
It Looks Like A Very Well Made Program. I Hope I Get To Use It Cya.

  8. It is uninstallable, but some users have problems with it cleanly uninstalling. I wish I could say it would work 100% when uninstalling it but that’s not always the case. The worst thing that I think I have heard of is the icons remaining the Vista-style instead of switching back to XP’s style.

It isn’t one single program, it mainly consists of many small programs. And those small programs are really very well made. It will let you choose during installation, which parts of “Vista Transformation Pack” you want to install.

Hi, I installed VTP6 and I can gladly say it works well! I had tried VTP before and was never able to get the UI theme/skin. I gave up and uninstalled which worked except icons, which I restored using TweakUI. I installed the main stuff and ditched most of the extras (start orb, visual task tip, sidebar, glass2k). There is one problem I’m having. I don’t really like the color of the top pane of windows. I tried customizing but that didn’t look any good at all. I tried glass2k but that just makes the whole window see-thru. It doesn’t have the see-thru look of the ones in the screenshots. Also, in windows explorer it at first showed the vista-like folder info at the bottom, but now it’s showing the XP left sidebar panel in vista-colors instead. Is there any way to switch between these options?

Also, I’ve been using QTTabbar since you reviewed it. It’s an excellent concept, and that program does it very well. The one annoyance I’ve had is that it changes the function of the main back/forward buttons to go ALL THE WAY back/forward, and makes the small buttons on the tabbar take the regular step 1 back/forward. Is there an option to disable this? The program should leave that function alone.

I never had any luck customizing the color either, but I’m not sure why you’re not getting the transparency when using glass2k. That always worked for me, but I hated having the transparency because it made reading the title bars a little difficult.

That must be something that needed to be configured when the program was installed. I remember having that feature and it actually annoyed me more than anything because it was not collapsible. All it did was eat up a bunch of valuable screen space at the bottom of my explorer window.

I would have to classify that as a bug in QTTabbar, but I think it happens for everyone. I tried to get a hold of the developer but I had a terrible time finding an email address, not to mention there would have probably been a language barrier.

  12. Where is the windows setup file folder?!?!?!

  13. I’m not sure what you’re talking about? And why would you need that folder?

  14. if i didnt like the windows vista can uninstall it ang get back my windows xp.

  15. If you don’t like this software you can uninstall it and get back your normal XP, but if you’re talking about actually installing Windows Vista you cannot go back to XP without starting over.

  16. after installing i cant seem to access my gmail account… wwaaahahahahhaha

  17. You can’t access your Gmail account? I don’t even know how this would affect that?

Hey Ryan, it turns out the vista-like folder info at the bottom of windows explorer is shown when the Aero style is chosen in the Styler program. The reason it disappeared before is because I had chosen the Vista basic style. I decided to give the Aero one a try again, although it really has zero transparency in the title-bar. I hope that FastAero will be enhanced to a usable level so I can ditch the VTP aero all together. I like VTP’s taskbar, sounds, login page, buttons, scrollbars, but on my PC the fake aero is really a joke.

  19. Yeah, the fake aero hasn’t evolved to the level that I expected it to be at. I thought by now a lot more things would have popped up, but I think the excitement of trying to make XP look like Vista is wearing off a little now that Vista is actually available.

  20. Hey, i really love the transformation pack. I would really love to download it, but what if i don’t like the transformation, could i uninstall it to get back my old XP? Please reply ASAP, cause i need to know and i have downloaded the software already.

    Thanks.

  21. Yes, you would be able to uninstall it.

  22. Whenever i use this it works, but the whole start menu and button dosen’t work. Any help?

  23. I am using for 2 months Vista Transformation Pack 8.0.1([softdownload22.com])
and works very well but slows my computer a little bit.I don’t know why ?but I love my windows new look and I think I’ll keep it
