trip.pngWe just wanted to give everybody a heads-up that our writing schedule will be a little bit different over the next several days because we’re taking a quick vacation to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary.

For those of you wondering where we are headed, we decided to stay in our own backyard and take a road-trip around Lake Michigan, something we haven’t done before. We’ll be driving to a couple of different places along the lake in Michigan, then crossing the Mackinac bridge and driving around into Wisconsin with a couple of stops there too. And then back home to the Chicagoland area in Illinois on Wednesday.

This week instead of writing our CyberNotes as we usually would, we decided to do something a little different and post lists of our favorites for each day of the week. This will start on Monday, and will continue all week. No Daily Downloads will post, but we’ve got some good wrap-up articles for the days we’ll be gone, along with a couple of extra articles.

Now that we just got our hands on the new iPhone 3G, this road-trip will give us the opportunity to put the GPS feature to the test! When we get back, we’ll let you know how well it works.

See you on Wednesday!

  1. Wishing you a pleasant vacation. I’ve been enjoying your site for about a month now and really enjoy it. Have a great trip.

  5. Have a great trip! I will be looking forward to your return.

  6. Enjoy your holiday! Am curious about the GPS performance on the road. It depends on how well that feature works and software availability for it if I will buy the iPhone 3G or not.

We’ll definitely be putting it to the test. It will be nice for things like finding restaurants around our current location (Yelp is a great free app for that). You can count on a more in-depth review of the device sometime after we get back.

Congratulations and try not to ‘work’ too hard, ‘field testing’ your new iPhones. :)

No, we want them to work hard field testing the new phones. That way we will get a great review. I am interested, even though I know you are not. :)

I am interested too in what these phone are capable of, especially if they live up to all the hype. It is just something I don’t have a need for.

How come the map doesn’t have a point ‘A’?

  16. Congrats and have a great trip. Take lots of pictures!

I have heard it has trouble updating the GPS info fast enough while traveling on the road, which would make it difficult for Garmin, TomTom etc. to deliver a trustworthy experience in the car. This was tested on a preview version of the phone though, so I am hoping your location on Google Maps is updating faster with the final version :)

  18. I would suggest following the west coast of Michigan all the way through Traverse City. It’s a gorgeous area.

  19. happy anniversary Asley and Ryan. enjoy your holiday ^^

  20. Happy Anniversary guys! Enjoy your trip!

  21. Thanks everybody! We had a great trip!

We actually did just that- we drove up and stopped at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in Indiana then drove up the coast and stopped in Traverse City for the cherry festival going on, then headed up to Mackinac, then drove around the upper peninsula into Wisconsin and made a few stops along the coast there as well. Definitely a nice drive!

That’s a good question. Guess Google didn’t want to give us an “A” this time around. ;)

From our tests it updated plenty fast to give accurate directions. We used a Garmin on our trip as well for a bulk of the trip, but when just trying to find our way around town we always used the iPhone. It never really let us down with accuracy or update frequency.

  23. That’s great to hear Ryan, thanks for the update! And welcome back! Hope you had a great holiday.

I think A got covered up by “F” because it was the same…

Funny, that would kinda make sense

  26. That’s the only explanation I can come up with!
