Hi guys (and gals!)! We’ve been getting emails over the last month or so asking what we’ve been up to since we cut back our writing schedule. Now that life has calmed down (a little), we thought we’d share just what it is that’s filling our time these days.
Before we get into that, we wanted to thank you for your patience and understanding with our recent transition. As always, we appreciate your support, and your readership! Thank you for taking the time to read and comment, and send in tips, they are always appreciated!
Aside from mourning over the Cubs losing, here’s what we’ve been up to. At the end of August, Ryan accepted a position as a “Deployment Specialist” with a Chicago-based company. The organization is located in the “Chicago Loop” (for those of you unfamiliar, it’s just the name for the business district in the City). This meant we either had to move closer to the city to reduce commute time, or relocate to the city. We’re not really city dwellers so we packed up and moved about an hour Southeast of where we were living to a Western suburb of Chicago. Ryan takes the train into the city everyday and is enjoying his job of managing and deploying websites.
As for myself, I accepted a position as a Teacher/Technology Integration Specialist at an elementary school in the area. I teach 5th grade math, kindergarten-4th grade computer classes, and I manage the school website and help teachers integrate technology into their classrooms. So far I am loving the job because it combines two things I am passionate about, teaching and technology.
We do have to say that it has been quite the adjustment to take a few steps back from CyberNet, and we do miss it! We haven’t had nearly as much interaction with our readers lately which is one of the things we enjoy most. To help with the interaction, we’ve got a question for you. Even if you’ve never commented before, feel free to answer!
Reader Question…
Now we’d like to turn and ask you guys what you’ve been up to! In the past, we haven’t really asked what you do during the day, so feel free to let us know what profession you’re in and even the name of the company, if you’d like! If you’re a student, tell us what you are studying and where.

At the minute am doing a degree in Business Computing and studying the following range of topics hardware, software, analysis and software development.
Chiropractor turned IT guy (Don’t ask! LOL)… working for a great company called Stifel Nicolaus, located in downtown St. Louis, MO. I work in the PC Support group, specializing in Blackberry Deployment, Altiris Deployment and Cisco VoIP… along with 2+ years of Desktop PC Support.

Congrats on your changes, and it’s good to hear from you.
Well I started on my Masters in Computer Science and that has kept me busy. Currently not working but going to school full time. I wasn’t really looking for a job but since I have posted my resume on hotjobs.com, dice.com, etc. I keep getting hit up for positions. So one of those positions really struck out to me and I have an interview this Friday. It is for web developer/database analyst at a school district, if by chance I get that job that means after this quarter I will be going to school part time and working full time. Other than than nothing much.
this is my last year in college and after that i’ll be officially a pharmacist
although i work a night shift in a nearby pharmacy
Thanks a lot for taking the time to share with us what’s happening in your neck of the woods. I’m glad that you guys are content in what you’re doing. That’s the whole point—be happy with yourself in whatever you do.
I finished college a long time ago. I was a Business Administration Professor for a few years and a Business Consultant after that. At this moment, I’m a retired person planning to go back to college and finish my Master’s degree in Business Administration.
Meanwhile, I surf the Web and blog most of the day. Also thinking of opening a company offering tourist assistance in Panama City, Panama to English speaking tourists. That will keep me busy, while practicing the English language. Spanish is my native language.
I enjoy reading articles from you guys for almost a year now, and will patiently wait until the next article comes along. You have one of the best technology sites that I know of.
Greetings from Panama in Central America. Best of luck!
wow, most of the readers are geek. I am from Bali, just an IT enthusiast, love reading your blog
I am not really a frequent commenter on Cybernet. But I am really a fan of it. I have been visiting Cybernet frequently once in a day or two ever since it was born (a few days later)!
I am from Melbourne, Australia. I graduated from university with a Software Engineering degree on December 2007. I am now working as a developer for a Melbourne based company that is a subsidiary for a US based company.
It’s so fun to hear what everybody does! Thanks for the responses, and keep them coming.
Chiropractor turned IT guy? That’s an interesting change, for sure.
Yikes, I can personally attest to how difficult that is. It’s doable, but definitely busy. Good-luck with that!
I love it, you are retired and going back to college. Why not? It’s great that just about anybody can further their education, and age doesn’t matter. Enjoy it Omar!
Still keeping up my Firefox Blog and Website. Also still doing Technical Support and Sales for GoDaddy. Sadly, not much else new with me. Congrats on your new jobs. I too am not a “City Dweller” but am luck that I am less than 2 miles from my job, so it is a short bike ride to work. Oh and still doing 3rd shift.
Greetings from Ecuador! I am currently translating into the local sign language, which is proving quite a feat. Have loved computers all my life, and unlike most, don’t get tired of them! Great blog, and hope you find time to keep it up!
Hi Guys,
I finally published my first novel
I took a break from IT work for a while to get the damn thing finished. But Cybernet has been a great way to keep in touch with the IT world

I work Inventory Control for Craft’s Etc ( [craftsetc.com] ). It’s not very exciting, but it pays ok and my supervisor is pretty laid back. I’m hoping to stumble on a computer job, but so far, it’s not happening.
I liked this blog pretty much. So I just wanted to say that I run my own Travel Web Site with extensive information about the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador.
Hello Ashley.
What a pleasent surprise to note that you have landed the same job that i do, although the responsibilities are slightly different.
This is Alok from India. I am a regular visitor to cybernet and love your articles. I live in a suburb of the New delhi and have finished my Masters in Computer Application and teach undergraduate students in a university. My Subjects range from UNIX to Data communications, Basic internet awareness and Software engineering. I am also responsible fr managing the small intranet that the university has.
Cheers and best of luck in life for you and ryan.
Hi this is Daniel. I am a Tech Project Lead at Capitalone at Richmond va. The last few months have been hectic specially at banks as soon as the end of the financial year comes closer.
I love technology but somehow I don’t like to get work done by others (suject matter experts) As a lead I work with all the engineers who works at datacenter Windows Unix etc But for me I still miss working on technology on my own. Its easier to work on computers than to make engineers work on them. My miss the cybernet updates but I still visit the site often hopeing an updated article will be posted. I am really happy that you have found what you like and want to do in life. I suppose its the most imp to do what one really likes. All the best cheers. danny.
I am currently implementing/managing the newest technology in the architectural industry called BIM (Building Information Modeling) for a large developer. Its fun because I get to do architecture but also get involved in technology.
I have nothing to do with IT or Computer guys or it may seem … but i work all day along with computers … and since i am tired of it … i am trying to fly higher …
Right now i am a CAD Technical Designer / Graphics Designer … but since i have formation in Civil Engineering … i am focused right now in getting work abroad my country, anywhere in the world that seems appealing. If there’s anyone out there needing one … here’s the tip …
I already tried to fire myself on a friendly basis but didn’t made it
… i think in January i’ll embrace a new mission, once i am really with other things in mind.
Anyway best lucks for you all, and with less or more posts, the quality is awesome so i’ll be here … unless i grab a place with no internet connection … like … Sahara Desert

Hi Ryan & Ashley,I am a production engineer for an American pharmaceutical company in Ireland! I love tinkering around with computers and have a few home builds under my belt. If I had a few more yo-yos I would love to build the ultimate beast – good things come to those that wait. Good luck with your new jobs.
It’s very interesting to hear what paths our readers are taking in their lives! As Ashley said I am a “deployment specialist” that focuses on launching and maintaining websites. Most (almost all) of our clients are law firms, which makes the job even more interesting.
I originally applied for a programming job at the company I now work for, but after looking at some of my background they thought that I’d be a better fit for this position. It’s nice because I have a chance to interact with people throughout the day rather than being confined to a cubicle debugging code. I’m definitely glad I got the position I did over the programming job.
Don’t think I’d be able to keep my sanity trying to go after a Masters Degree in Computer Science.
Nice to hear how it’s going with you Ryan and Ashley, I sometimes wondered how things were going over there.
I live in Gent, Belgium. I work part-time in a non-profit organization that promotes independent information about medicines. I do the bookkeeping, make sure our personnel’s wages are being paid etc.
For the rest of the day I take care of our household and 4 children, and spend quite some time on the computer
That sounds like a full-time job right there!
It doesn’t only sound like a full-time job, it *is* a full-time job
