Tinhed wrote:
Never min dthe default theme. its pretty easy to change themes in ubuntu. I am sure this Wall-light theme would be available as a separate download. It would take only a few mouse clicks.

it's so easy to say things, but it is so hard to realize them. a couple of generous guys are actually working on this theme and not a single time they mentioned the word "easy". there are many issues/limitations you will face when making dark themes as such, let alone openoffice not using gtk libraries. moreover, i know someone who's very talented in making gtk themes but switched over to kde because of those known issues..

EXACTLY!
Kde has the Looks and extra functionality i guess... but in my opinion... Gnome has better stability... and less bugs. If Ubuntu/Gnome can improve their Artwork to this Level... Kde will have Serious Problems. Gnome would then have the Looks, and the Stability! No doubt. I love both Kde and gnome. But i really believe that gnome needs to step into the 21st Century.
Just my opinion.

holey crap, that is the best mockup i have EVER seen for ubuntu. If Ubuntu incorporated this kind of beautiful theme into the Desktop, Ubuntu will be
UNSTOPPABLE!
Ubuntu is an excellent Linux Operating System, But at the moment the only thing holding it back to its full potential is the current Ugly Artwork. This is Definately an area where Ubuntu needs to Improve in The Most! I really hope some professional Artwork comes into ubuntu in the near future. Kde 4.1 Looks Awesome! But... Kde has always been a bit Buggy, unstable "compared to gnome" So I doubt even Kde 4.5! will be better than gnome in terms of stability, in never has in the past..... So I am really hoping Gnome will out do Kde4.1 or atleast Match it on an Artwork/Ui Level in the future.

It will always be easy to change the theme in Ubuntu, but the question is how many users will ever do that? I know over a dozen people who have Ubuntu installed on their computers, and only one has changed the theme. I believe a majority of people always stick with the default theme, unless they like to explore things a bit.
