The problem is I would like to use it to bring files with me, and installing Zune software then modifying the registry on any computer I go to is either not possible or too much hassle, depending on if the PC has deepfreeze or admin access.

That’s true. My friend mostly uses his for backups since he has a 2GB flash drive for all of his files.

You said it doubles as a hard drive. Zune (still) doesn’t have removable disk support, and this is reported to not be available in the upcoming software update either. There are hacks to use the Zune as a HD, but it requires havin Zune software installed and hacked registry on any computer you will access the files with. Also, to update files on the device, you must have Zune software syncing media in the background.

This is a big feature the Zune NEEDS.

Oops, I had assumed that it had that feature because my friend uses his as a hard drive. He just told me that he had to use the registry hack though, but he said it was really easy.

The hack is pretty easy though, but it’s too late to pick one of them up now.
