zoho.jpgZoho Writer Gets Revamped
The Zoho team is always working hard to bring you the best new features, and this time they are trying to combine the toolbars and menus. The result is similar to the Office 2007 Ribbon, but I definitely like what they are on to here.

It looks like the social browser Flock is eyeing a change in their backend. They are considering switching from using Firefox to using Chrome, since both are open source.

Google has decided that they can’t continue forking out the bill for people to send out free SMS messages through Google Talk. Guess they didn’t realize quite how popular it would be.

kumo search.jpgMicrosoft’s Kumo Search Engine
It seems like all the search companies are trying to find that right mix of what people are looking for with the results that are returned. Google has played around with plenty of different prototypes, and now Microsoft will be doing the same kind of thing.

eset logo.jpgNOD32 Gets False Positives, Deletes System Files
My favorite antivirus solution, NOD32, recently had a very unfortunate event happen to them. Their antivirus app falsely identified several system files as being potential viruses, and automatically quarantined them.

There were some people thinking that Google was going to ditch the GrandCentral service that they acquired in 2007, but it looks like they are doing the opposite. Instead they are actually adding the ability to transcribe voicemail messages.

video converter.jpgCreate Videos from Your Photo Collection
One thing that sucks with taking so many digital photos is that a lot of people don’t try to do anything with them. One of the things that I like to do the most is turn my photos into a video because it’s easy for less tech-savvy family members to watch, and something like this can do just that.

Thank you Ryan. Your articles have been well selected and very informative. I enjoyed your articles on Flock, the black box which isn’t black at all, and the improved Zoho word processor.

  3. Windows 7 RC 7057 has been leaked too.
    Its a great OS!

  4. NOD32 did not have an unfortunate event happen to them, Ryan. They caused an unfortunate event to happen to thousands of their users. While false positives are a part of the AV world and others have caused the same problem, I’ve never heard it described as happening to the cause of the problem before.

Right now I’m using Firefox mostly for my personal usage, and chrome for business, mostly because I really like the Plugings in Firefox. I hope it get faster, then I could ditch completely chrome.

It’s also an unfortunate event for them. They have had an amazing reputation of unsurpassed reliability and almost no false positives in their past. So the fact that this could affect their reputation makes this unfortunate for them, and their users.

Good to hear! I can’t wait for the Release Candidate to officially be available. I’m just too lazy to redo my Windows 7 machine right now, and then have to do it a few weeks down the road when the RC comes out too. :)
