Microsoft Kills Off Windows Home Server
Microsoft announced the Windows Server SKUs last week, and in doing so they also let users know that they will no longer be developing Windows Home Server. That means Windows Home Server 2011 is the last version of the product that will be made available.
iGoogle Will Be Discontinued
Google is back at it announcing the closure of a few more services. This time around iGoogle is probably the bigger of the items in the list, but it will remain available until November 1, 2013 (well over a year from now).
Weather Channel Buys Weather Underground
Weather Channel has scooped up one of their competitors, Weather Underground, in an acquisition last week. It worries me a little bit because I’ve loved Weather Underground for quite awhile, and I’m worried what might happen to the service now.
Upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99
Microsoft will be offering quite the deal on Windows 8 when it is released later this year. Once available you’ll have until January 31, 2013 to snag an upgrade copy of Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99. Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and even Windows 8 pre-release users are all eligible.
‘Leap Second’ Bug Wreaks Havoc Across Web
Reddit, Mozilla, and Gawker were among the ones affected by the “Leap Second” bugs that occurred just a bit over a week ago. Last year Google explained how they prepared for the extra second getting added.
